Leonardo Da Vinci - Becoming the Ultimate Renaissance Man
“Leonardo da Vinci, (born April 15, 1452, Anchiano, near Vinci, Republic of Florence [Italy]—died May 2, 1519, Cloux [now Clos-Lucé], France), Italian painter, draftsman, sculptor, architect, and engineer whose genius, perhaps more than that of any other figure, epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal. His Last Supper (1495–98) and Mona Lisa (c. 1503–06) are among the most widely popular and influential paintings of the Renaissance. - “Leonardo da Vinci” Encyclopedia Britannica

The Making of a Genius
Leonardo di ser Piero Da Vinci, born in 1452 near Vinci, Florence, lived with his illegitimate father until he left home to become an apprentice of Andrea di Cione. Leonardo attended Verrocchio’s workshop, where he began to apply and master a broad range of revolutionary techniques, including sfumato, foreshortening, and chiaroscuro. These techniques, which created perspective and depth in his artwork, as well as Leonardo’s in-depth knowledge of mathematics, anatomy, and engineering allowed him to create some of the most famous and renowned paintings ("Florentine Upbringing" Galebiography). The methods utilised in the Mona Lisa, Last Supper, and The Virgin of the Rocks would eventually change the world of art forever.
